Smith Light was the only freshman diver in the district invited to the FISD Invitational at the Bruce Eubanks Natatorium on November 19, 2016. For his coach, Mrs. Graves, it’s a great honor. She says, “it’s really unusual … Most of the time, we don’t see this.”

To Smith, the most important part of a swimmer is to “have a good mindset” and “think positive.” He states that, without a positive outlook, he never could have accomplished this. His team takes notice of his positive attitude, too. According to Vincent Chen, Smith is a role model, always coming to practice “with a smile on his face.”

Smith started when he was 13, on his birthday, and ever since, he’s woken up with a will to improve and a goal of achievement. He plans to set a school record and hopes for a scholarship his senior year. To him, swimming is a matter of hard work and a mindset to improve, and so we root him on for him to continue towards a path of success.
