Step into the world of the “DunKings”

This year’s Super Bowl once again featured commercials that audiences look forward to throughout the course of the football game. Dunkin utilized the prime marketing spot during the Super Bowl to promote their company and release new merch and menu additions. 


Dunkin’s Super Bowl advertisement featured real life best friends Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as they interrupt Jennifer Lopez at a recording studio. Affleck is eager to visit Lopez while she is at work, reversing their roles during last year’s Super Bowl ad as Lopez visited him at Dunkin. Calling themselves the “DunKings”, they surround themselves in the nickname, wearing DunKings jumpsuits. 


The DunKings burst through the door of the recording studio and display their musical abilities to persuade Lopez to include them in her album. Damon is holding a Dunkin drink as they make their grand entrance, looking somewhat embarrassed but he is willing to help his friend. 

Tom Brady also makes an appearance, acting as the Dunkings’ DJ and his presence relates the ad back to themes of football.


Lopez declines Affleck’s offer and reiterates how she has already talked to Affleck about this opportunity. A disappointed yet determined Affleck leaves the studio with Damon and the rest of the DunKings except for Brady who Lopez offers to  stay. Affleck and Damon walk through the streets together while they discuss their willingness to help each other, and Damon reassures Affleck, reminding him that Dunkin is featuring their names on the new drinks.


As a Dunkin aficionado, I enjoyed the silly ad. It made me smile as it featured Affleck’s attempt to enter into his musical era. Damon and Affleck are usually in Dunkin advertisements and are prominent faces for the face of Dunkin. Including the longtime friends highlighted the joy and friendship that Dunkin is associated with, and I enjoyed seeing the commercial showcase the brand’s signature colors of pink and orange.


To accompany their Super Bowl ad, Dunkin released a tracksuit, a couple of pink and orange tumblers, and a bucket hat all with the moniker “DunKings”. These merchandise pieces allow you to have a piece of the commercial with you at home, but unfortunately they are already sold out.


Additionally, Dunkin added “DunKings” inspired food to their menu. These menu items include:

  • DunKings iced coffee
  • DunKings “MUNCHKINS” skewer – featured in the ad
  • Everything Encore Breakfast sandwich
  • Mixed Berry Beats Dunkin’ refresher
  • Hazelnut Heartthrob Coffee (iced or hot available)


Having Super Bowl ads available brings happiness and excitement to the audience throughout the game and Dunkin does exactly that with the feel good energy of Damon, Affleck, and Lopez. Be sure to pick up a DunKings treat and immerse yourself into the world of the DunKings.
