Certification and Licensing at the CTE Center
And how it can provide sustaining support for FISD students.
The Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) of Frisco Independent School District (FISD) offers a myriad of courses that can help to certify and license students with programming and curriculum related to their career path of choice.
While not all students receive direct certifications, the courses can prepare them for the college experience as well as grant internships, some of them are even paid. Architecture as well as Architecture & Construction prepare students to pursue a variety of careers, including: landscaping architecture, interior design, and urban planning.
Matthew T. of Architecture II reports that “the class allows me to be creative and prepares me for the independence of college,” and Saanvi K. of Architecture & Construction I says, “the four year course helps us feel like an architect.”
The Architecture classrooms demonstrate the level of care and education in the curriculum just in the wall hangings – showing the many eras of architecture as far back as the Neolithic times.
Other courses such as Video Game Design, taught by Kip Bledsoe, allow for students to pursue certifications in the future, specifically a certification for Scrum, a form of software development. The class provides suitable readiness for college, an example provided by Bledsoe being a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Project Management at University of Texas at Dallas.
The use of advanced tech in their environment, both in Video Game Design and Architecture, allows them to become more prepared for potential internships that may be presented later in the courses. The CTEC offers more advanced courses than home campuses, so the opportunity for certifications and potentially paid internships arise in courses taught there more often.
Whatever career field interests a student, the CTEC offers courses for it whether that may be hospitality & tourism, agriculture & construction, or medicine like Ashley Shaw who scored a part-time job at a hospital. Provided that a student meets the prerequisites for a given course, they can earn certifications and licensing through their taking of it, and that is thanks to the faculty of the CTE Center and FISD.
