AP Capstone Program

AP+Capstone+Program

AP Capstone is a College Board program that provides students with the ability to do research, work on their communication skills and collaborate in groups.

This class is made up of two courses AP Seminar and AP Research, which you take in the course of two years. In order to receive the diploma in AP Capstone you have to score a three or higher in each course and pass three other AP classes. However this diploma is in addition to your high school diploma and not put in place of it. AP Seminar is the introduction class, which focuses on a group research project.

Mr. Stewart, the current GT Humanities and AP Human Geography teacher will be teaching the class next year, although when asked he said he acts more as a “mentor rather than a teacher.” You are free to research what you want, but he will guide you in the right direction.

The second year in this course called AP Research you focus on an individual research project. You aren’t just graded on your project because you set benchmarks for yourself that act as checkpoints. This course requires “a little bit of maturity and self discipline,” But you also “get the flexibility of learning what interests you and setting your own goals.” As long as you set and reach those academic goals you set at the beginning of the class.
