Flags waving and hearts racing, the bright spotlight illuminated the stage ready for a battle of precision, passion, and performance.The day of state competition for Varsity Winterguard, where every move tells a story, and every spin brings them closer to victory. Readying for a breathtaking display of artistry, athleticism, and the spirit of competition. On Saturday April 9th, Varsity had made an impressive 11th place in State Finals.
From start to finish, our guard have pushed themselves through the season with hard work and dedication. This year, the Varsity show was called “Surrealian Blue,” a show consisting of unlocking the unconscious mind and embracing dream-like, irrational imagery. One of the main concepts of this performance was the presence of a surrealist boundary caught between reality and imagination. The execution of this show created a sense of surprise and wonder, transcending the audience into a moment of bliss as they watched this expressive performance .
On the day of the competition, the individuals have a morning rehearsal before getting ready to head onto the bus. Starting as early as 7:30 am, to 9 am to have rehearsal, chunk throughs and then 30 minutes in order to get ready for the day.
“The morning rehearsals feel like a fever dream sometimes,”said Ira Sonawane, a junior Varsity guardmate at LT. . “Sometimes I feel a little rushed when it’s time to leave the school.”
Although the mornings can be hectic and tiring, our Varsity team manages to push through many weeks of rough and late practices, and warm up before their final show.
“The warm ups get me excited for the actual show,” said Sonawane. “It lets me see where I messed up and how I can improve for the actual one.”
As the prelims round ends, the guardmates prepare for their second show, which will decide who will participate in the final round.With the nervousness arriving, LT colorguard would just like to see what goes in for all their hard work, LT made it to finals. Cheers fill up the crowd as our team scores a spot on the leaderboard. Hard work has paid off for Varsity Colorguard.
“I wasn’t worried about not making it,” said Kanade Kagawa, a sophomore Varsity guardmate at LT. “I had confidence in ourselves and the amount of diligence put in.”
After the final performance, the amount of effort poured into the show won them the longing friendship and memories made in season. A long season with a very rewarding feeling at the end and experiences like none other.
