On Monday, Jan. 20, Donald Trump was formally inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States. The ceremony took place in the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.
The ceremony was attended by not only the typical members of the government, but also a number of tech billionaires like Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai. Former President and Vice President Joseph Biden and Kamala Harris were also in attendance, along with several past presidential candidates and appointees like George W. Bush and Hillary Clinton.
Additionally, for the first time, foreign leaders were in attendance at the inauguration. Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, Argentinian President Javier Milei, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa were all witnesses to the ceremony. Historically, foreign leaders have not attended presidential inaugurations despite their relationships with American political figures.
In his inauguration address, Trump made several policy proposals and promised a new “golden age” for America. His proposed policies included mass deportation of illegal immigrants and making it U.S. law that there are only two genders.
The inauguration was punctuated by Carrie Underwood’s performance of “America the Beautiful.”
