Every year, just like clockwork; one of the biggest award ceremonies surrounding the acting industry and those that are part of it takes place each year in January. This year was no different. The Golden Globes was started in January 1944, held at the 20th Century Fox Studios. It celebrates and commemorates the accomplishments in both movies and television shows. Although, everyone gets recognition at the Golden Globes; from set design to lead actor or actress, everyone gets the recognition they work so hard for during the process of these projects.
2025 was no different. There were many nominations, all with deserving actors and directors. There were a total of 10 nominations this year, while the maximum amount is 27. Each year, the number of nominations varies on the work presented in the media, and from there a select few are picked.
This year, the nominations were Actress in a Musical or Comedy TV Series, Drama Motion Picture, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, Supporting Actress and Actor in a Motion Picture, Director of a Motion Picture, Screenplay of a Motion Picture,Actor in a Musical or Comedy Film, and many more. Some of the nominees included actors such as Sebastian Stan, Selena Gomez, Zendaya, Demi Moore, Timothee Chalamet, Adrien Brody, Daniel Craig, and some projects nominated were The Bear, The Gentlemen, Baby Reindeer, The Penguin, Inside Out 2, Flow, and many others.
While some of these films were nominated for only one category, many were nominated for multiple awards. Although many great actors and actresses were nominated this year, there can only be one winner in each of their respective categories. Some of the most notable winners of the night included Sebastian Stan, nominated his new projects The Apprentice and A Different Man in Actor in a Musical or Comedy Film, as well as Actor in a Drama Motion Picture. Ultimately, he ended the night taking a win for the category of Actor in a Musical or Comedy Film.
Jean Smart also ended the night successfully by sweeping the award for the Hacks, streaming on HBO Max. Some other actors who ended their night on a happy, winning tone include Fernanda Torres for her recently released film I’m Still Here in the category Actress in a Drama Motion Picture, Adrien Brody for the film The Brutalist in Actor in a Drama Motion Picture, Zoe Saldana for Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her part in the thriller Emilia Perez, and many more. This was a glorious, celebratory night for these actors and their peers, marking another historical night of award giving and receiving.
Now, while these talented actors received some deserved recognition for their work, the films they worked on also had their chance to shine on this night. One of these films was the highly anticipated Wicked movie, starring pop singer Ariana Grande and British actress Cynthia Erivo for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Another was the highly-reviewed Challengers movie with Zendaya for best Original Score. Many more awards were given, and not just to highly accomplished films, but to those whose ideas brought them to life; their directors. Ultimately, the winner of the director of a Motion Picture was Brady Corbet for his work directing the newly released movie starring the now Oscar winner actor Adrien Brody, The Brutalist.
Overall, the Oscars of 2025 hosted a room full of projects and actors with untapped potential and true talent, like all the years prior. Now, with the eventful night over, people are looking forward to the next big event ceremonies, the Grammys celebrating the world’s musical artists and the Oscars, giving recognition for outstanding musical and artistic accomplishment in the industry. Now, all that’s left for people is to wait, listen and watch until they can nominate their favorite artists and actors for the ceremonies to come, and for the Oscars to come back next year, in 2026.
