For the first time in their eight-year history, the Lebanon Trail Blazers varsity football team took home the win from their homecoming game. On Oct. 10, the team finished with a final score of 24-20 against the Centennial Titans, one of their most prominent competitors in the district, putting their overall record at 3-3 at the time. This marks the best record the team has had since 2020 when the team finished with six wins and four losses, and with four games left in the season, the team has a chance to even surpass this.
The game is only as good as the people there, however. Senior linebacker Leo Bustos, who held up the defense along with his teammates, shares the feeling that the win brought.
“It was a great game and a great win,” Bustos said. “It was a team effort and everyone played their part. Centennial was tough but we mostly did good and we got the win.”
The football team wasn’t the only organization that succeeded that night. Freshman saxophonist Aarnav Bhaila and the rest of the Lebanon Trail band did well in their halftime show, “Fascinating People.” Bhaila shares his opinion on their performance.=
“Overall I think our performance was pretty good,” Bhaila said. “Percussion held us through the whole way and each section did their part.”
Even after the final whistle blew, the celebration continued. Senior Ire Adebayo describes the experience after the game ended.
“After the game, we hung out at Cane’s with some of the fans and players,” Adebayo said. “Everyone was happy and having a good time, it was just a fun night in general.”
This game, being the homecoming game, was especially significant to the student body, and as a result, dozens of students attended. Adebayo describes the atmosphere of the game.
“There were a ton of people there, a lot more than usual,” Adebayo said. “Everyone was cheering and we did multiple chants in the audience, it was the best game I’ve been to this season.”
Having performed their halftime show numerous times, Aarnav Bhaila describes the marching band’s goals for the rest of the season.
“I think we need some more work on the choreography,” Bhaila said. “If we do that, I think we can definitely make state.”
With a long way to go before the end of the season, Leo Bustos has confidence in his team.
“We’ve already had a good season and I think we can keep it going,” Bustos said. “If we keep practicing and improving some stuff, I think we will get some more wins.”
