Teena Thomas, the passionate and dedicated drum major of the LTHS marching band, shows what true leadership entails. As the band progresses through a demanding season, Thomas remains a beacon of inspiration for her peers, showing that leadership extends far beyond the podium.
When asked how she stays motivated, Thomas emphasized the importance of unity and resilience during the band season.
“Something that’s common in our band is that we stay strong, and we stand tall and we are proud because in order to be undeniable in everything we do, it’s important that we show up and be the best we can be so we don’t leave room for others to question our worth,” Thomas said.
As a drum major, Thomas gets a unique perspective on the band’s growth throughout the season. Reflecting on the band’s growth this year, she talked about her favorite part of being a drum major and shared the collaborative spirit of the group that she values most.
“My favorite thing about being a drum major is watching how the show comes together and seeing how different people can contribute to something bigger than themselves,” Thomas said.
When asked what advice she would give to incoming eighth graders considering joining the band, Thomas stressed the importance of focusing on the present.
“Take it one step at a time especially with band because you are just coming into school so really focus on what you’re doing at the time and don’t focus too much on the future or the past,” Thomas said.
This advice serves as a guiding principle not only for new band members but for anyone striving to reach their full potential.
Through her leadership, Teena Thomas demonstrates the core values of dedication, teamwork, and mindfulness. As she continues to guide her band through the season, Thomas and her words of hard work and commitment resonate with her teammates and inspire them to strive for excellence every day.
