Deadpool, a fan favorite Marvel superhero, except he is more like an anti-hero. Most of the things that he has done for the greater good have been morally questionable in the Marvel universe, although a lot of people think he’s not. That’s what separates his movies from the rest of the Marvel cast. Deadpool and Wolverine has been one of the most anticipated movies of the year. It has gone viral over social media, making it one of the most iconic movies that released this year in my opinion.
The plot of the movie was pretty generic for the Marvel universe. Being trapped in another dimension/universe has been done multiple times in the Marvel universe. It is probably the weakest point of the story. I had high hopes for the plot of this movie. I think that the motive of Deadpool was really sweet and showed us a new side of Deadpool that was never explored in the other movies, though I wish they would have executed it better as the plot was very predictable except for the part where multiple Deadpool’s that came out.
While the plot was lackluster, the characters made up for it. Deadpool is known as an unserious, funny guy and brings a lot of comedy to his movies. He brings a lot of light heartedness to the serious situations in the movie. Who knew the main character could also be the comedic relief? Wolverine, on the other hand, is a more stoic and serious character compared to Deadpool. This created a lot of contrast that I really enjoyed.
My favorite part of the movie was the special effects. One of the main antagonists’ powers are very similar to that of Professor X, although it does have different characteristics, where physical touch is needed to manipulate people (it’s really hard to explain how it works so I would recommend watching the movie to see). It was a great representation of the power of manipulation and I was in awe every time it happened. Not only did they have great special effects on the antagonist, but the heroes too. Wolverine’s claws in the movie was another great use of special effects. It showed how deadly and skilled he was and acted as a sign for people not to underestimate his powers.
All in all, the Deadpool and Wolverine movie was a very enjoyable movie that could be easily digestible for any high school student. While the movie followed a very generic Marvel storyline it was made up for by the great relationship, characterization, and the special effects. I think overall it was a great enjoyable movie that I would recommend to any Marvel or superhero fan in general. I would rate Deadpool and Wolverine a 7.4/10.
