New York Fashion Week (NYFW) 2024 kicked off on Feb. 9, and ran until Feb. 14. Brands displayed their fall/winter 2024 collections, and while each one had its unique touches and original sense of style, there were some definite trends that we can expect to see out and about this year.
97 brands displayed their work this month on the runways of New York. Fashion Week provides potential buyers (and ordinary fashion enjoyers) an opportunity to see future collections on the runway. It also provides designers a chance to display their work and promote their collections.
Many celebrities made appearances at shows throughout the week. Beyoncè, Anna Wintour, Julia Fox, and Rachel Brosnahan were only some of the many Hollywood stars that could be seen in recordings of shows. Celebrities often come to NYFW shows, as they are more than likely to wear some of the pieces that were shown on the runway in the coming months.
One of the commonalities in many of the shows was the use of color. While still extravagant, thematic, and detailed, many collections featured the use of neutral and pastel colors rather than the bright and eclectic colors of spring and summer. Gold and silver were heavily used, but so were black and white, browns, and dark blues along with pastel colors.
Additionally, more formal silhouettes that reflected business casual styles and color schemes were commonly seen. Many of these seemed like a nod to quiet luxury and wealth, with the outfits reminiscent of country clubs, golf, and mansions in the countryside.
Moreover, another thing that can be seen in this picture is the red, white, and black scheme that is often paired together in day-to-day outfits. This seems to be a persisting color scheme for the next season, and we are likely to continue seeing it throughout the year.
In women’s fashion especially, draping gowns and sequins were common. This collection from Prabal Gurung displays the best of that, in a style reminiscent of both the Roaring 20s and the 2000s simultaneously. Draping silhouettes were heavily featured throughout the show, and ruching and silk were also common.
Overall, NYFW 2024 showed us a new array of collections for fall and winter and set the stage for trend predictions and color schemes that we can expect to see throughout the next year.
