Since 2016, Spotify has been doing its yearly Spotify Wrapped, a culmination of a year’s use of Spotify for its listeners, becoming a long-awaited treat at the end of every year. Other companies have also incorporated a yearly reflection including Apple Music and the TV provider Sling TV.
Spotify Wrapped includes an overview of your listening history in a year including the most listened to genres, top songs, and top artists. It has appealed to many, yet what makes it so enticing?
Having the ability to look back and reflect on what people have listened to in a year is similar to opening up a present they have given themselves. It poses the question of “How has my year been?” and answers it with carefully compiled statistics to reinforce what they may or may not already think will be included. The reveal of this data and ability to look back at a year continues to build excitement and with the inclusion of unique aspects such as fun comparisons to locations that play music similar to your interests, it provides a sense of belonging as well as fosters inspiration to go connect with others as a person’s results can easily be shared.
Here is an overview of my Spotify Wrapped:

Most played song: “Cardigan” by Taylor Swift
Top Songs:
- “Cardigan”
- “Blank Space”
- “Is It Over Now?” (Taylor’s version) (From The Vault)
- “Anti-Hero”
- “Don’t Blame Me”
Total minutes listened: 15, 417 minutes and the equivalent of 10 days
Peak date: May 26 with 346 minutes and Iwas in the top 24% of listeners worldwide
Most listened to artist: Taylor Swift (.5% fan with 13,008 mins)
Top Artists with peak listening month:
Taylor Swift: October
Gracie Abrams: May
Sabrina Carpenter: May
Olivia Rodrigo: September
ChocQuibTown: October
After these categories were revealed, I received a special message from Taylor Swift herself which added a personal touch and made my Spotify Wrapped even more special. She recorded a message thanking her fans for listening to her music and continuing to support her.
Spotify classified my Listening Personality as a Hypnotist based on my consistent listening to particular albums (1989 Taylor’s Version in particular)
Reflecting on my personal Spotify Wrapped gave me a quantifiable way to see how much time I have spent on Spotify and how much I listen to and adore my top artists. I was not at all surprised to see Swift on the top of my list, but was slightly taken aback at me being in the top .5%. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to see “Is It Over Now?” (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault) from the 1989 Taylor’s version Vault made the list since Spotify stopped tracking data on Nov. 15, 2023 and the album was released on Oct. 27, 2023. (In previous years, Spotify is known for stopping data collection on October 31)
These data points are extremely personalized and only further connect Spotify users to others as well as connect them to the company itself. As a way to showcase each and every single Spotify user’s listening taste, Spotify Wrapped will continue to be interesting in the years to come.
Huge thank you to Spotify for letting me reflect on my year, and I can’t wait to see my Spotify Wrapped in 2024!
