Taylor Swift being named person of the year is the best possible way to end the year. And she truly deserves it because of all her amazing accomplishments and the records she has managed to break.
In her interview with Time, she shared many stories and answered many questions that the media had. Some main ones include confirming her relationship with football star Travis Kelce, detailing the start of her career, and even elaborating on the feud between her and Kanye.
“I’m just there to support Travis,” Taylor said when asked if she was aware of the cameras on her during Kelce’s games. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
Taylor and Travis had been dating a while before we first saw them together, so they had time together out of the public eye to cement their relationship and get to know each other.
According to TODAY, when Swift was 17 and because she couldn’t go on tour with Kenny Chesney, he gave her a check instead.
She said that with it, “[she] was able to fuel her dreams,” meaning that she spent that money working tirelessly towards her goals.
By now, everyone who has heard about Taylor Swift knows that there was something that went down with Kanye West at the VMAs. The gist of it is that when Taylor was about to give her speech for winning Best Female Video, Kanye interrupted her, claiming that Beyonce should’ve won instead. That took a toll on Swift’s mental health, as she thought that no one wanted her to win that award.
“That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard,” Swift told TIME.
In the end, Taylor Swift won Person of the Year, totally deserved, and the 2009 VMA incident has been long forgotten.
Although Swift and Beyonce are often compared against each other, which Taylor finds appalling.
“It’s very lucrative for the media and stan culture to pit two women against each other, even when those two artists in question refuse to participate in that discussion,” Taylor said.
According to TODAY, she also added that Beyoncé is “the most precious gem of a person—warm and open and funny.”
