As the lights start to dim the screen is filled with the iconic Marvel red. The immersive soundtrack and bright glitch theme intro of Spiderman Across the Spider-Verse instantly get you hooked. As the movie progresses, you’re sliding off your seat and towards the screen. Everything about the film is phenomenal. The designs, the animations, the style, the expressions, the voices, everything was worth the five-year wait.
The quality of the movie makes you think that this movie took over a decade to make. The art style is very important to the characters. Every character is diverse and different from one another in characterization and is further enhanced by the different art styles each character takes. Another thing that distinguishes the characters is the animation approach that Sony took. In the movie, Miles Morales, the main character is animated at 12 frames per second differentiating him from the others. Another character named Hobbie Brown is also animated differently. The whole movie is animated in 2s meaning every character moves every 2 seconds, but Hobbie moves every 3 seconds making him unique from the rest. The easily distinguishable characters make it easier for the audience to digest as the movie has such a large cast of characters.
Compared to the first movie, Into the Spider-Verse, Across the Spider-Verse has shown improvement. After watching Across the Spider-Verse, Into the Spider-Verse feels like a prequel to Across the Spider-Verse instead of the first movie in the Spider-Verse franchise. The characters and soundtracks were very popular upon release, even trending on TikTok. The movie became such a big hit that the movie has made almost double the amount made in the first movie. Across the Spider-Verse is rated 95% on Rotten Tomatoes and is ranked number 6 in the Box Office right now.
With improved plot, animation, art styles, and characterization, Across the Spider-Verse is very worth watching. Watching the movie will forever make you wonder if Marvel and Sony can make the third movie even better next year. You can find the movie on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime or you can buy or rent the movie on YouTube.
