As the school year draws to a close and the reality of graduation sinks in, I reflect on my high school experience and realize how much Vanguard News has meant to me and helped me grow. Some of my fondest memories are from sitting in the small closet with the staff, preparing for UIL competitions, listening to music, and bonding with everyone.
During my time on staff, I not only developed as an individual, but also learned how to work effectively with a team, persevere, and most importantly, use my voice to express myself and what’s important to me. I have seen how Vanguard News has grown from a small group of writers to a talented team of hardworking individuals, complete with writers, editors, and graphic designers who will actually have their own class period next year!
I owe a huge thank you to Mrs. Gilmore, who inspires me every day with her kindness and passion for teaching. She is one of the most encouraging teachers I have ever had, and is always there for everyone on staff, whether it’s helping us improve our skills or just listening. I can truly say that I have grown as a writer and a person under her guidance, and I have no doubt that she will continue to lead Vanguard News to accomplish amazing things.
I would also like to thank my fellow staff members, Akshitha, Katy, Addie, Ira, Anoushka, and Ava. I am so grateful to have spent my senior year on staff with you all and I am excited to see what the future holds for each of you. You are all amazing and I am glad to have met and worked with you!
Being on staff has been one of the highlights of my senior year, and as bittersweet as it is to leave, I am immensely grateful for the opportunities and lessons it has given me. Vanguard News has taught me life skills and lessons that no other academic class could have, and for that I will always be thankful. I cannot wait to see the amazing things this organization will achieve, and I am so proud to have been a part of it.
