Tyler, The Creator’s Estate Sale – A Deluxe Album Review
“Call Me If You Get Lost” is the sixth studio album by rapper Tyler, The Creator. Released on June 25th, 2021, the Grammy-winning album features collaborations with Pharell Williams, DJ Drama, Brent Faiyaz, DAISY WORLD, and more. Composed of 16 tracks, with an overall length of 52 minutes, this album is a soulful mix of hip-hop and jazz.
Tyler is known for releasing an album every two years, and fans eagerly awaited the release of his 2023 album, only to find out he would be releasing a deluxe version of “Call Me If You Get Lost” instead. Adding eight additional tracks, “CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale” graced the lives of fans on March 31st, 2023.
This is one of my favorite albums in the world. As a huge fan of Tyler’s work, I’ve gone to the CMIYGL concert, I’ve got the shirts, I’ve got the vinyls, yet I am always surprised by anything he releases.
Beginning with an interlude titled Everything Must Go, it further adds to the smooth, and lively vibe of this album. The interlude is a thank you to all supporters of the album with lyrics like “Arenas all around the world/Took another trophy home” and “Thank you to every ear that listened/ Bought a Ticket, whatever”.
Continuing with the theme of bragging about his accomplishments and how proud he is of his prosperous career, the deluxe continues on with Stuntman featuring Vince Staples. Though, the ones that stood out to me on the track were “Heaven To Me” and “Boyfriend, Girlfriend”. One is fun, and one is more laid back, though they help symbolize how Tyler cannot be held in a box when it comes to musical and lyrical compositions. He is able to make something out of any beat presented to him.
Heaven To Me is a sample of John Legend’s song Heaven, a song I’ve heard since I was younger. So when I heard the first lyrics of this song, I immediately lost my mind. I relate special memories with “Heaven”, and having my favorite artist make a song with it felt unreal. The song is about Tyler’s future with a wife and kids, and his family. Mentioning how relaxing and peacefulness is heaven to him. I think that it is a very raw song from him, as it strays from the flashy persona of Tyler Baudelaire, the character that he plays for this era. I can appreciate the versatility of his songs. You can feel hyped and free with one track, and then the next can have a different effect on you.
Sometimes there is a fear that messing with something that is already “perfect” will mess it up for everyone. I had really high hopes for this deluxe, and it exceeded my expectations. There are so many underlying themes like success, love, apologies, wealth, and life. It’s an extremely fun mix of sounds, and I believe no matter what genre you like, this album has a hit everyone can get behind. Those interested can stream on any services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Youtube.
