Model UN gains momentum at the district conference
The Model UN district regional conference was held on Dec. 11 at the International Leadership of Texas in Garland, Texas. The 2021 district regional conference consisted of 180 people.
Model UN is a club where students role play different countries and committees discussing worldwide and serious topics. It requires that students research their respective country and present formally.
Senior and chair of the Human Rights Committee (HRC) Sanjana Kodali said she enjoyed how the MODEL UN district regional conference went.
“Everyone was very collaborative and worked very hard,” Kodali said. “I enjoyed how everyone was so cooperative and worked so well in creating resolutions and solutions.”
Heet Sanghavi, who participated in the HRC and represented Saint Vincent and The Grenadines, said he had a memorable time there.
“The thing I enjoyed the most was making new friends and lifelong memories,” Sanghavi said. “This is because I had no friends that I knew in my committee. However I made new friends from new schools and we made memories that we will remember for years to come and this truly was the best part of the conference.”
Since this regional conference was an in-person competition again, every participant learned different kinds of lessons and made friends from other districts.
“I did MUN last year but it was online,” Sanghavi said, “and this was my first in-person conference and I could learn from experienced delegates in my committee.”
