Something Wicked this Way Comes

Over the course of the last few months, the Lebanon Trail Theatre, under the direction of John Davenport and Michel Holloman, have been working on the Shakespearean Macbeth. The play shows Wednesday October 13, Friday October 15, and Saturday October 16.

The play follows the lead character, Macbeth, played by Leah McCally, as he goes through his character arc of greed, ambition, and power. The show follows Macbeth as he gets a prophecy from three witches that tell him that he is soon to be king of Scotland after the king will die. Later, Lady Macbeth, played by Saanvi Sreejit, convinces Macbeth to kill king Duncan, played by Andrew Kitchen; and with that the plot continues.

A common phenomenon behind the scenes of Macbeth is that one is not allowed to say the word ‘Macbeth’ or else one is said to be cursed with misfortune or even death. The director, Mr.Holloman has said about the supposed curse, “I feel like the curse of Macbeth is something that has just been transformed over the hundreds of years. We have not had the experience of dealing with the curse; we think we have actually dispelled the curse by doing such a phenomenal production here […]”

The students have worked very hard on this production, both on the stage and behind the scenes. The technical makeup director and actor, Bri Willingham, said about the show “my favorite part of the shoe is getting to pour warm water into the dry ice to create a fog effect on stage” when playing a witch. The effect makes a large fog effect on stage to make an amazing ambiance.
