Mega Lunch Message
Are tutorials still going to be mandatory with Mega Lunch?
Tutorials are going to be mandatory with Mega Lunch in place. If a teacher assigns a tutorial to a student, that student must attend. However, the process of assigning tutorials may differ from this year’s current procedure.
Will the tutorial be an hour long?
Tutorials will not be an hour long, but will rather just be a 30 minute time period labeled as A block or B block. Mega Lunch will be split into these two blocks with a bell inbetween to indicate when one block ends and the next begins. Some teachers will have tutorials during A block, and some will have tutorials during B block.
How will I know when my teachers are available for tutorials?
All teachers will have a schedule posted outside of their room that indicates what days they are available for tutorials (as shown in the photo). This schedule will also inform students whether the tutorial will be during A block or B block, whether that teacher allows food in his or her room or not, when that teacher has closed tutorials, whether students may come in just for a place to work, and more. Also, there will be multiple posters listing a master schedule of all of the teachers’ schedules as well as when and where they have been stationed for duty.
Are there places we can’t eat?
Students may not eat anywhere in the Fine Arts or Athletic Hallways. Those locations are off limits except for the auxiliary gym, where up to 35 students may enter to play sports. In fact, students may only go to the Fine Arts and the Athletic Hallways if they get a special pass from one of their teachers giving them permission to do so. Also, while most of the Academic Hallways are open to eat, students may not eat in the library.
What are the overall rules to Mega Lunch?
- Do not go to or eat in off limit locations (no eating in the library or gym, no going to the Fine Arts or Athletic Hallways without explicit permission).
- Throw away all trash.
- Off campus lunch is not allowed.
- Do not skip mandatory tutorials.
What happens if these rules are broken?
Students will be confined to the lecture hall for the entirety of Mega Lunch to eat for breaking any rules. However, if the general student population continues to make these infractions regularly or to a greater degree, Mega Lunch will be taken away and the traditional schedule of A and B lunches will resume.

This idea may be put into effect the school year of 2018 to 2019, and starting on Tuesday, May 22nd, Mega Lunch will be implemented into the school day to be tested. This trial run will continue for the remainder of the school year.
Essentially, Mega Lunch is going to be an hour long time between second and third period from 12:05 to 1:05 PM for all students of all grades to eat lunch, relax, work on homework, and go to tutorials. As for when students will have homeroom, the plan is still in development.
The following are a few frequently asked questions about Mega Lunch to help affirm what exactly the hour will entail. However, if you have any more questions after reading this, please use the link at the bottom of the page to submit questions, comments, and concerns about Mega Lunch. This input will be addressed Monday, May 21st during the last homeroom meeting of Trail Blazer Time.
What can I do during Mega Lunch? Where can I get my food? Where can I eat?
Mega Lunch allows students to choose how they want to spend their lunch, so there are no specific times that students must eat or work on their homework. Most activities can be done at any point during the hour. As for lunch, the cafeteria will be open for the full hour that Mega Lunch entails. Not only will several lunch lines be open, but the coffee shop will be too. The LTHS Grab & Go Kiosks seen in the morning around campus for breakfast will be open throughout the school for lunch as well.
Students may eat in the cafeteria or in the collaborative spaces and hallways of the Academic Wing. If eating in the hallways, students may not sit up against the lockers, but rather need to be against the wall. Also, students need to keep in mind that they must whisper in the collaborative spaces and hallways, as tutorials are also going to be held in the Academic Wing.
Apart from eating lunch, students may spend time in a tutorial, in the library, in the auxiliary gym, and more. The library is open for working as well as playing board games, checking out books, and likewise. The gym, contrarily, is open to up 35 students for playing sports. The gym, library, and cafeteria would be most suitable for activities such as visiting with friends. Students may work on homework and projects virtually anywhere in the Academic Wing or the cafeteria when not in a tutorial. Some teachers may even invite students to work in their classrooms.
