Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week

This week from Monday, October 23rd to Friday, October 27th, all Frisco ISD schools are celebrating Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is a whole week devoted to the eradication of drugs. The National Red Ribbon Campaign was started in 1985 to honor a man, Enrique Camarena, for his work in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Camarena had been kidnapped, tortured, and killed for his work in trying to get rid of illegal drugs.

Lebanon Trail is participating in many activities throughout the week. One activity available is in the cafeteria. Open until Wednesday is a distracted driving simulator. Students can sit in the seat and attempt to complete a variety of tasks while faced with distractions. Other activities are present for students as well. For example, beer goggles were passed around the cafeteria during lunch on Wednesday for students to see if they could do simple things such as walking or high-fiving if they were under the influence of alcohol.

One mentionable thing available to students was a banner for them to sign. Signing means they are pledging to making healthy choices and to refusing to do drugs. After they signed, they could pick up a red ribbon to wear as a symbol of their commitment and to honor those whose lives have been lost due to drugs.
